Support Programmer
Maintaining Unix based systems, for several health trusts across Britain and Ireland, being used to administer patients. Performing releases, remote maintenance and providing telephone support.

January 1996 - April 1998 : Telemetry Support Engineer.
Providing 24 hour support to ensure the ARTS2000 telemetry (remote monitoring) system functioned to specified service levels. The system ran on seven DEC Alpha servers, and several hundred Windows 95 & Windows NT clients. It monitored thousands of Anglian Water's treatment works and pumping stations. Also providing user support, user training and documenting new procedures.
January 1994 - January 1996 : Secondment to Logica, Leatherhead.
Joint venture scheme to produce the ARTS2000 telemetry system. Year 1 was spent designing, planning and writing factory acceptance procedures. Year 2 was spent programming, in C, tools to convert data from the PDP based telemetry systems to the new format required on the Alphas.
March 1988 - January 1994 : Senior Engineer Telemetry
Maintaining telemetry systems running on ELN microVAX computers. Designing and maintaining VAX cluster based relational databases. Programming in Fortran and C to obtain management information data.
April 1986 - March 1988 : Computer Operator
Operating a network of PDP mini-computers with RSX11M+ operating systems, being used to run a divisional telemetry system. Reviewing, producing and testing software, and writing documentation.
November 1977 - April 1986 : The Welding Institute, Cambridge
Research Technician
Working on research projects involving diffusion bonding and resistance welding techniques. Using and managing a PDP 11/73 computer connected to a high speed scanning system. Programming in Fortran 77 and Basic. Using a variety of monitoring equipment to establish best materials to use and optimum settings for welding equipment.
